Learn how to save Instagram videos for offline viewing, what works with public content, and how to stay within platform rules.
Instagram is one of the most popular platforms for short-form video, including Reels, Stories, and feed posts. Whether you want to keep a tutorial, a recipe, or a memorable clip, understanding how to save Instagram videos responsibly is important.
Types of Instagram video content
Instagram offers several video formats:
- **Feed videos** – Standard posts in your timeline
- **Reels** – Short vertical videos, often with music
- **Stories** – Temporary 24-hour clips (public Stories from accounts you can view may be downloadable while active)
Each format has a unique URL structure. Copy the link from the Share menu (paper airplane icon) and choose "Copy link."
How to download with Social Mate
1. Open Instagram and navigate to the video you want to save. 2. Tap Share → Copy link. 3. Paste the link into Social Mate on our homepage. 4. Click Download Video and save the file to your device.
What does not work
- **Private accounts** you do not follow
- **Expired Stories** after the 24-hour window
- **Content removed** by the creator or Instagram
Social Mate only processes publicly accessible videos that you have permission to view.
Quality and format
Downloads are provided in the best quality available from the source. Instagram may compress videos; the saved file reflects what the platform serves, not necessarily the original camera quality.
Responsible use guidelines
Instagram's terms restrict downloading content you do not own without permission. Use downloads for personal reference, offline viewing of permitted content, or content you created yourself. Do not re-upload others' work without credit and permission.
We invite you to use Social Mate for content that uplifts and is permissible—educational clips, your own creations, and videos shared with your consent.
Ready to download? Paste your video link on the homepage.
